Full Definition
Capsulectomy is the surgical removal of the fibrous capsule that forms around breast implants, typically performed to treat capsular contracture or during implant revision surgery. The procedure may be partial (removal of a portion of the capsule) or complete (total capsule removal). En bloc capsulectomy, where the implant and entire capsule are removed together, is sometimes performed for specific indications such as implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). The technique chosen depends on the indication and clinical findings.
