ATP stands for Assistive Technology Professional, a certification awarded by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). ATPs conduct functional assessments, recommend appropriate technology, train users, and document clinical justification for funding. In editorial contexts, the abbreviation ATP must not be confused with the biochemical term adenosine triphosphate, which shares the same initialism but belongs to an entirely different domain. When editing rehab technology documents, confirm on first use that ATP is expanded and defined. The credential may also appear alongside SMS (Seating and Mobility Specialist) when the practitioner holds both certifications.
