Endometrial dating is a diagnostic procedure that involves microscopic examination of endometrial tissue to assess whether the morphological development matches the expected menstrual cycle day. This technique, originally developed by Noyes, Hertig, and Rock, evaluates glandular and stromal changes to determine if the endometrium is developing appropriately for implantation. A lag of more than 2 days between histological and chronological dating was historically considered diagnostic of luteal phase deficiency. However, the clinical utility of endometrial dating has been questioned due to high inter-observer variability and limited correlation with pregnancy outcomes in modern reproductive medicine practice.
