A condition where the ovarian follicle luteinizes but fails to rupture and release the oocyte.

Full Definition

Luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome (LUFS) is a condition characterized by the apparent normal development and luteinization of the dominant follicle without actual ovulation occurring. The follicle continues to grow and produce hormones as if ovulation had occurred, leading to normal luteal phase hormone patterns despite the absence of actual ovulation. This condition can be a subtle cause of infertility, as it may be missed on routine hormone monitoring but can be detected through serial ultrasound examinations.
