endometrial thickness

Ultrasound measurement of the uterine lining used to assess receptivity for implantation.

Full Definition

A transvaginal ultrasound measurement of the endometrial lining thickness, typically assessed in the sagittal plane. Optimal endometrial thickness for embryo transfer is generally considered to be 7-14mm with a trilaminar pattern. Thin endometrium may indicate poor receptivity and reduced implantation potential, while excessively thick endometrium may suggest pathology requiring investigation before embryo transfer.

Usage

Usage note: Often abbreviated as 'endo thickness' or 'ET' in clinical shorthand.

In Context

  • "Endometrial thickness measured 9.2mm with good trilaminar pattern." — Ultrasound report
  • "Transfer was postponed due to inadequate endometrial thickness." — Clinical note
