The follicular phase begins with menstruation and ends with ovulation, typically lasting 10-14 days. During this phase, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) promotes the growth of ovarian follicles, with usually one becoming dominant. Estrogen levels rise as the dominant follicle matures, preparing the endometrium for potential implantation. This phase is crucial for fertility treatments as it's when ovarian stimulation medications are typically administered to produce multiple mature eggs.
