Frozen embryo transfer (FET) involves thawing embryos that were previously frozen and transferring them to the uterus in a cycle separate from the initial IVF stimulation. This approach allows for better timing of transfer when the endometrium is optimally prepared, reduces the risk of OHSS, and enables genetic testing of embryos. FET cycles may use natural timing or hormone replacement protocols to prepare the endometrial lining.
