An investigational fertility preservation procedure where strips of ovarian cortex containing primordial follicles are surgically removed, cryopreserved, and later transplanted back to restore ovarian function. This technique is primarily offered to prepubertal girls and young women facing gonadotoxic cancer treatments. The ovarian tissue can be transplanted to the original ovarian site (orthotopic) or to alternative locations such as the forearm (heterotopic). While still considered experimental in many centers, successful pregnancies have been reported. The procedure offers hope for fertility preservation when oocyte or embryo freezing is not feasible due to time constraints or patient age.
