An automated system used at a satellite ground station to increase transmit power during signal attenuation events such as rain fade, compensating for path losses and maintaining link quality.

Full Definition

UPC systems monitor the received beacon level or downlink signal quality at a ground station and automatically increase the HPA output power when atmospheric attenuation degrades the uplink. By counteracting rain fade in real time, UPC helps maintain the satellite's received signal level and preserves the link margin without operator intervention. UPC is specified as a range (e.g., 0 to 6 dB of dynamic control) and is a key mitigation technique for Ku-band and Ka-band earth stations.
