A home sleep apnea test (HSAT) is a portable monitoring device that patients use in their own homes to screen for obstructive sleep apnea. These devices typically monitor airflow, breathing effort, and oxygen saturation but do not record brain waves or formally assess sleep stages. HSATs are appropriate for patients with high pretest probability of moderate to severe OSA and no significant comorbidities. While more convenient and cost-effective than in-laboratory polysomnography, HSATs may underestimate apnea severity and cannot diagnose other sleep disorders.
