Full Definition
An oral-peripheral examination involves comprehensive evaluation of the lips, tongue, teeth, palate, jaw, and facial muscles to assess their structural integrity and functional capability for speech production and swallowing. The examination includes assessment of muscle tone, range of motion, coordination, and strength. Speech-language pathologists use this examination to identify anatomical or physiological factors that may contribute to communication or swallowing disorders.
