Full Definition
A minimally invasive spine fusion technique that accesses the disc space through the neural foramen using a posterior approach. The procedure involves removing the facet joint and part of the ligamentum flavum to access the disc space, followed by discectomy and insertion of an interbody cage filled with bone graft. TLIF allows for 360-degree fusion while minimizing approach-related morbidity compared to anterior approaches, and reduces the risk of neural injury compared to posterior lumbar interbody fusion.
