Weak or absent peripheral pulses in endurance athletes due to enhanced cardiac efficiency and peripheral vascular adaptation.

Full Definition

A benign finding in highly trained endurance athletes where peripheral pulses, particularly in the feet, may be difficult to palpate or absent at rest. This occurs due to enhanced cardiac stroke volume efficiency and peripheral vascular adaptations that optimize blood flow distribution. The phenomenon is most pronounced in runners, cyclists, and other endurance athletes who have developed significant cardiovascular conditioning. While concerning in sedentary individuals, this finding is generally normal in trained athletes when accompanied by normal cardiac function and no symptoms.
