Full Definition
A condition resulting from non-penetrating blunt force trauma to the chest that temporarily disrupts cardiac function without causing permanent structural damage to the heart. Most commonly seen in contact sports like football, hockey, and martial arts. The impact can cause temporary arrhythmias, conduction disturbances, or myocardial stunning. Unlike commotio cordis, cardiac concussion typically doesn't result in immediate life-threatening arrhythmias but requires careful monitoring as delayed complications can occur.
