Distributive shock is a form of circulatory shock where the primary problem is widespread vasodilation and increased capillary permeability, leading to relative hypovolemia despite normal or increased cardiac output. It is most commonly caused by sepsis, but can also result from anaphylaxis, neurogenic causes, or drug reactions. The hallmark is warm extremities with bounding pulses despite hypotension. Treatment focuses on fluid resuscitation and vasopressor support while addressing the underlying cause.
