Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is a minimally invasive technique used to control severe hemorrhage below the diaphragm by temporarily occluding the aorta with an inflatable balloon. This procedure can be performed rapidly in the emergency department or operating room, providing temporary hemodynamic support while preparing for definitive surgical repair. REBOA has largely replaced emergency department thoracotomy for certain trauma scenarios.
