Parametric monitoring involves real-time measurement, display, and documentation of essential sterilization process variables to ensure that each cycle meets predetermined specifications. Modern sterilizers continuously track chamber temperature, pressure, steam quality, cycle timing, and other critical parameters, comparing them against established limits and automatically documenting deviations. This monitoring provides immediate feedback on process performance and creates permanent records for lot release and regulatory compliance. When combined with biological and chemical indicators, parametric monitoring forms part of a comprehensive approach to sterilization assurance, though it cannot alone confirm sterility achievement.
