Full Definition
Sterilization wrap is a barrier material used to package surgical instruments and medical devices prior to sterilization. The material must be permeable to the sterilizing agent (steam, gas, or plasma) while preventing microbial contamination after sterilization. Common types include SMS (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) nonwoven fabrics and paper-plastic pouches. The wrap must maintain package integrity throughout storage and handling until the point of use.
