A radical surgical technique involving removal of an entire anatomical compartment that contains a malignant tumor, along with all structures within the fascial boundaries of that compartment. This approach is used primarily for soft tissue sarcomas and other aggressive malignancies where tumor cells may have infiltrated beyond the visible mass. The procedure requires sacrifice of normal tissues within the compartment to achieve oncologically sound margins. Compartmentectomy represents a more extensive approach than wide local excision and is considered when adequate margins cannot be achieved through less radical means.
