Perfusion studies encompass various imaging techniques that measure blood flow, blood volume, and vascular permeability in tissues, providing valuable information about tumor biology and treatment response in surgical oncology. These studies include CT perfusion, MRI perfusion, and nuclear medicine perfusion imaging, each offering different advantages for specific tumor types and anatomical locations. In surgical planning, perfusion studies help assess tumor vascularity, identify feeding vessels, and determine tissue viability. They are particularly useful in evaluating response to anti-angiogenic therapies, monitoring for tumor recurrence, and assessing the adequacy of blood supply to tissue flaps in reconstructive surgery. Perfusion parameters can also predict treatment response and guide selection of surgical versus non-surgical approaches.
