Tumor ablation encompasses various minimally invasive procedures that use thermal, chemical, or other energy sources to destroy malignant tissue without surgical resection. Common modalities include radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation, cryoablation, and irreversible electroporation. These techniques are particularly valuable for patients who are poor surgical candidates or have tumors in locations where resection would result in significant functional loss. Ablation can be performed percutaneously, laparoscopically, or during open surgery.
