Molecular profiling, also known as genomic profiling, is the systematic analysis of tumor DNA, RNA, or proteins to identify genetic alterations that may influence cancer behavior and treatment response. In thoracic oncology, molecular profiling has become essential for identifying actionable mutations such as EGFR, ALK, ROS1, BRAF, and other genetic alterations that can be targeted with specific therapies. This testing typically includes next-generation sequencing (NGS) panels that analyze multiple genes simultaneously. Results guide treatment selection, particularly for advanced non-small cell lung cancer where targeted therapies have significantly improved outcomes. Molecular profiling also encompasses testing for predictive biomarkers for immunotherapy response.
