Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is a systematic approach developed by the American College of Surgeons for the initial evaluation and treatment of trauma patients. The protocol emphasizes a primary survey using the ABCDE approach: Airway with cervical spine protection, Breathing, Circulation with hemorrhage control, Disability (neurological assessment), and Exposure with environmental control. ATLS provides a standardized framework that can be applied regardless of available resources and ensures critical interventions are prioritized appropriately.
