Damage control resuscitation (DCR) is a systematic approach to managing critically injured patients that emphasizes the early use of blood products in balanced ratios, minimization of crystalloid fluids, and rapid control of bleeding. This strategy aims to prevent or reverse the lethal triad of trauma: hypothermia, acidosis, and coagulopathy. DCR protocols typically involve the immediate administration of packed red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma, and platelets in predetermined ratios, often before laboratory results are available. This approach has become standard practice in major trauma centers.
