Full Definition
A surgically implanted prosthetic device designed to treat severe stress urinary incontinence in men, typically following prostatectomy or trauma. The device consists of three components: an inflatable cuff placed around the bulbar urethra, a pressure-regulating balloon implanted in the pelvis, and a control pump placed in the scrotum. The cuff maintains urethral compression for continence and can be deactivated by squeezing the pump to allow voiding. The AMS 800 is the most commonly used device. Complications may include mechanical failure, erosion, infection, and urethral atrophy requiring revision surgery.
