Full Definition

Multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) is an image processing technique that generates cross-sectional images in arbitrary planes from volumetric imaging data acquired in a different orientation. In vascular imaging, MPR allows for optimal visualization of vessel courses, measurement of vessel dimensions, and assessment of pathological findings by reformatting axial CT or MR data into sagittal, coronal, or oblique planes. This technique is particularly valuable for evaluating tortuous vessels, measuring vessel diameters perpendicular to the vessel axis, and planning interventional procedures. MPR can be performed as straight-plane reconstructions or curved reconstructions that follow vessel centerlines.
