Full Definition

A covered stent-graft is a self-expanding or balloon-expandable metallic stent covered with a biocompatible fabric material, typically polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET), designed to create a new luminal surface that excludes aneurysms from circulation or seals vessel wall defects. These devices combine the structural support of a stent with the sealing properties of a graft, making them ideal for treating aortic aneurysms, traumatic vascular injuries, or iatrogenic perforations. The covered design prevents blood flow into aneurysm sacs or through vessel wall defects while maintaining luminal patency. Covered stent-grafts require precise sizing and positioning to ensure adequate seal zones and prevent endoleaks. They may be modular, requiring multiple components for complex anatomies, or unitized for simpler configurations.
