TIMI flow grade
Also written as: TIMI — Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction
A standardized angiographic classification system for assessing coronary blood flow during catheterization procedures.
Full Definition
The TIMI (Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction) flow grade is a qualitative assessment scale ranging from 0 to 3 that describes antegrade coronary flow. TIMI 0 represents no flow, TIMI 1 indicates penetration without perfusion, TIMI 2 shows partial perfusion with delayed flow, and TIMI 3 represents normal flow. This classification was developed during thrombolysis trials and remains the standard for reporting procedural outcomes in interventional cardiology. TIMI flow grade correlates with clinical outcomes, myocardial salvage, and long-term prognosis in patients with coronary artery disease.
Usage
Usage note: Always report both pre- and post-intervention TIMI flow grades in procedural documentation.
In Context
- "Final TIMI flow grade 3 was achieved in both the left anterior descending and diagonal branches." — Catheterization report
- "The primary endpoint was restoration of TIMI 3 flow at 90 minutes after treatment initiation." — Clinical trial protocol
