SMR

Also written as: SMR — Sexual Maturity Rating

Sexual Maturity Rating scale used to assess pubertal development stages.

Full Definition

Sexual Maturity Rating (SMR) is a standardized scale used to assess pubertal development in adolescents, evaluating secondary sexual characteristics including breast development and pubic hair growth in females, and genital development and pubic hair growth in males. The scale ranges from Stage 1 (prepubertal) to Stage 5 (adult). SMR provides objective documentation of pubertal progression and helps identify normal versus abnormal development patterns.
