Duke treadmill score

Also written as: DTS — Duke Treadmill Score

Prognostic scoring system combining exercise duration, ST depression, and angina during stress testing.

Full Definition

The Duke treadmill score is a validated risk stratification tool that incorporates exercise duration in minutes, maximum ST-segment depression in millimeters, and presence of exercise-induced angina to predict cardiovascular outcomes. Scores range from -25 to +15, with higher scores indicating lower risk. This scoring system helps clinicians determine the need for further cardiac testing and guides management decisions in patients with suspected coronary artery disease.

Usage

Usage note: Capitalize 'Duke' as it refers to Duke University where the score was developed.

In Context

  • "The patient achieved a Duke treadmill score of +8, indicating low risk for adverse cardiac events." — Exercise stress test report
  • "Risk stratification was performed using the Duke treadmill score following cardiac rehabilitation." — Follow-up consultation
