Left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD) is a fundamental echocardiographic parameter that measures the internal diameter of the left ventricle at the end of diastolic filling. This measurement is typically obtained from the parasternal long-axis view at the level of the mitral valve leaflet tips. LVEDD is a key indicator of left ventricular chamber size and is used to diagnose ventricular dilatation, assess disease progression, and guide therapeutic decisions. Normal values are indexed to body surface area and vary by age and sex, with abnormal enlargement suggesting volume overload, systolic dysfunction, or primary cardiomyopathy.
