Full Definition
Decerebrate posturing is a pathological motor response characterized by rigid extension and internal rotation of the arms, with extension of the legs and plantar flexion of the feet. This abnormal posturing indicates damage to the brain stem, typically at or below the level of the red nucleus. It represents a more severe neurological injury than decorticate posturing and is associated with a poorer prognosis.
