Full Definition
Decorticate posturing is a pathological motor response characterized by flexion and adduction of the arms with the hands pulled toward the chest, while the legs remain extended. This abnormal posturing typically indicates damage to the cerebral cortex or disruption of the corticospinal pathways above the brain stem. While serious, it generally indicates a better prognosis than decerebrate posturing.
