David procedure

A valve-sparing aortic root replacement technique that preserves the native aortic valve.

Full Definition

The David procedure, also known as aortic valve-sparing root replacement, is a surgical technique that replaces the diseased aortic root while preserving the patient's native aortic valve. The procedure involves reimplanting the aortic valve within a prosthetic graft (David I) or remodeling the aortic root (David V). This approach is particularly valuable in young patients and those with connective tissue disorders, as it eliminates the need for anticoagulation and preserves native valve function when the leaflets are structurally normal.
