Full Definition

A landing zone refers to the anatomical region of normal, non-diseased aorta where the proximal and distal ends of an endovascular stent graft achieve seal and fixation. Adequate landing zones are essential for successful TEVAR or EVAR procedures, typically requiring at least 15-20mm of healthy aortic wall for secure attachment. Landing zones are numbered anatomically (0-4 for thoracic procedures) to standardize communication about coverage of arch vessels and treatment planning. Insufficient landing zones may require surgical debranching or fenestrated/branched grafts to achieve adequate seal.
