Surgical bypass of visceral arteries prior to endovascular repair to create adequate landing zones for stent graft deployment.

Full Definition

Visceral debranching is a surgical technique that involves creating bypass grafts to the celiac, superior mesenteric, and/or renal arteries to reroute blood flow away from the native vessels. This procedure is performed to extend the landing zone for subsequent endovascular aortic repair in patients with complex aneurysms that involve visceral vessel origins. Debranching can be performed as a staged procedure or simultaneously with endovascular repair. The technique allows treatment of complex aneurysms in patients who are not candidates for open thoracoabdominal repair due to high surgical risk or prohibitive anatomy.
