An electrophysiology (EP) study is a specialized cardiac catheterization procedure used to evaluate the heart's electrical conduction system. During the study, thin electrode catheters are inserted through blood vessels and positioned in various chambers of the heart. These catheters can record electrical activity, pace the heart, and induce arrhythmias in a controlled environment. EP studies are essential for diagnosing complex arrhythmias, determining the mechanism of rhythm disorders, and planning ablation procedures. The procedure also allows for risk stratification in patients with syncope or ventricular arrhythmias.
