Contrast-enhanced imaging refers to any imaging modality that employs intravenously administered contrast agents to improve the visualization and characterization of vascular structures. In vascular imaging, iodinated contrast is used for CT angiography and digital subtraction angiography, while gadolinium-based agents are employed for contrast-enhanced MR angiography. The contrast material increases the signal difference between blood and surrounding tissues, enabling better delineation of vessel lumens, detection of stenoses, and identification of vascular pathology.
