CT angiography (CTA) is a specialized computed tomography scan that uses intravenous contrast material to create detailed images of blood vessels throughout the body. Unlike traditional angiography, CTA is non-invasive and provides cross-sectional and three-dimensional views of arterial anatomy. The technique is particularly valuable for detecting stenosis, aneurysms, and vascular malformations in coronary, cerebral, and peripheral arteries. CTA has largely replaced diagnostic catheter angiography for many indications due to its safety profile and diagnostic accuracy.
