Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare but highly aggressive form of breast cancer that accounts for 1-5% of all breast cancer cases. Unlike typical breast cancers that form discrete lumps, IBC causes the breast to become red, swollen, and warm, resembling an infection or inflammation. The skin may develop a pitted appearance similar to an orange peel (peau d'orange). IBC spreads rapidly through lymphatic vessels in the skin and is typically diagnosed at an advanced stage. Treatment usually begins with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery and radiation therapy.
