Thermography in burn care utilizes infrared thermal imaging to create visual maps of tissue temperature, helping clinicians assess burn depth and viability more accurately than visual inspection alone. Viable tissue maintains higher temperatures due to preserved blood flow, while necrotic tissue appears cooler due to compromised circulation. This non-invasive technology can help distinguish between superficial and deep partial-thickness burns, guide surgical planning, and monitor healing progress. While not universally available, thermography represents an objective assessment tool that can improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce the need for exploratory procedures in uncertain cases.
