The zone of coagulation represents the central core of a burn injury where thermal damage is most severe and tissue necrosis is immediate and irreversible. This zone is characterized by coagulated proteins, thrombosed vessels, and cell death. Surrounding this central zone are the zone of stasis (potentially salvageable tissue) and zone of hyperemia (viable tissue with increased blood flow). Understanding these zones is crucial for burn assessment, treatment planning, and predicting healing outcomes.
