FTSG

Full Definition

Full-thickness skin graft containing the complete epidermis and dermis down to the subcutaneous tissue level. FTSGs provide superior cosmetic results, better durability, and more normal skin characteristics compared to split-thickness grafts, but have higher metabolic demands and lower survival rates. They are typically reserved for cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face and hands. The donor site requires primary closure, limiting the size of harvestable grafts.

Usage note: Less common than STSG in burn surgery; reserved for specific indications.
