Full Definition
A standardized formula for calculating initial fluid resuscitation requirements in burn patients, developed at Parkland Hospital. The formula prescribes 4 mL of lactated Ringer's solution per kilogram of body weight per percentage of total body surface area burned, administered over the first 24 hours post-burn. Half the calculated volume is given in the first 8 hours, with the remainder over the following 16 hours.
