Pressure garments are custom-fitted, elastic compression garments worn by burn patients to prevent and treat hypertrophic scarring. These garments apply continuous pressure of 15-25 mmHg to healing burn wounds and maturing scars, which helps to flatten and soften scar tissue by altering collagen synthesis and organization. They must be worn 20-23 hours daily for 12-18 months or until scar maturation is complete. Proper fit and patient compliance are essential for effectiveness.
