SCORTEN (Severity-of-illness Score for Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis) is a validated scoring system used to predict mortality in patients with toxic epidermal necrolysis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome. The score incorporates seven variables: age, malignancy, heart rate, serum urea, glucose, bicarbonate, and percentage of detached body surface. Higher scores correlate with increased mortality risk, helping guide treatment decisions and family counseling in these severe dermatologic emergencies.
