Z-plasty

A plastic surgery technique employing Z-shaped incisions to interrupt linear scar contractures and increase tissue length in the direction of the central limb. In burn reconstruction, Z-plasty is commonly used to release contractures across joints and restore function. The procedure involves creating two triangular flaps that are transposed, effectively lengthening the tissue while redistributing tension. Multiple Z-plasties may be performed in series for extensive contractures.
