A hemodynamic measurement that quantifies the severity of aortic stenosis by calculating the pressure difference between the left ventricle and aorta during systole. The gradient is typically expressed as either peak instantaneous gradient or mean gradient, with mean gradient being more clinically relevant for severity assessment. Severe aortic stenosis is generally defined as a mean gradient >40 mmHg or peak velocity >4 m/s. This measurement is crucial for anesthetic planning as it indicates the degree of left ventricular outflow obstruction and helps predict hemodynamic instability during anesthesia.
