Full Definition

Diastolic pressure variation (DPV) refers to the difference between maximum and minimum diastolic pressures during one respiratory cycle in mechanically ventilated patients. It serves as a dynamic indicator of preload responsiveness, with variations greater than 5 mmHg suggesting fluid responsiveness. During cardiac anesthesia, DPV helps guide fluid management decisions, particularly when static measures like central venous pressure may be unreliable. The measurement requires adequate tidal volumes and absence of spontaneous breathing efforts for accuracy.
