When capture is confirmed, the device may reduce output voltage, and when capture is lost, it increases output to restore reliable pacing. This feature is particularly valuable for optimizing battery longevity and adapting to changes in pacing thresholds over time due to lead maturation, medication effects, or disease progression. Some systems can perform these tests on every beat, while others perform periodic assessments.
